Farbenmix " ANNA" Wrap dress

Farbenmix ANNA is a fave pattern of many. Such a simple but graceful pattern.
We recently held an ANNA sew-along over at Crafty Mamas
I have been saving this STENZO baby soft cord for something special, and this fit the bill!

Complete with a Janeas World Trouschka badge.
But can you spot my error? Lil pointed it out..." the lady has a beard, mum... " ."Ah yes. I'll just unpick and rethread the machine now darling..." ( that'll teach me to rush!)

More Ottobre Design magazine 4/2001 sewing!

I love this issue,  so far I have made THIS skirt and today the matching sweater.
I think I will be making quite a few more of these...

I love the swing shape of this top and also the slightly trumpet shaped sleeves.
The fabric is gorgeous too, Velour knit from the CM Shop, in Fuchsia.
I topped it off with a cute Farbenmix Iron Velour ( a velour for my velour!) in Love Chirp.

LEGO and ELVIS?!!!

Last Saturday we ventured forth to the BIG SMOKE, to meet up with the eldest and see the sights! When we left home it was -2o! Truly!

Our first stop was to collect the eldest son, then onto the LEGO Exhibit " Bricks Down Under".

Our eldest son is a LEGO freak, always has been. So it's possibly quite fitting that he  is now a second year architect student!

The other kids thought it was pretty cool, too.

We followed this up with a huge walk around the city  ( ok, we may have got a little lost), a Japanese lunch, a visit to a LUSH store ( where Miss B was quite at home and astounded the shop assistants with her product knowledge- all gleaned from the catalogue she keeps in her room), a trip to Harley Heaven to please the husband, COSTCO and the finale?  Dinner at a 50's Diner!

 One crazy fun filled day!

New! Ottobre Design Magazine 4/2011 AUTUMN..What a great issue!

The beautiful new Ottobre Design magazine arrived  in store this week, and it is BEE-OO_TIF_UL! Truly! So many things I have to make from this issue.

Otto have introduced a skill rating system on their pattern design sheet- designs marked with one dot are suited to beginners, while three dots need a little more experience. A great move I think.

What do I love most in this issue? Hmm... the jeggins to start with!

The entire issue is gorgeous!

Happy Sewing!

More Otto Vintage Sewing! Pattern #35 4/2001

Got enough lollies on there, kids?

Much crafty goodness afoot here today...card making, magnet making, cupcake making...

Cupcakes made by the littlest ( 7) and her Bestie. Do you think they could have possibly squeezed on a few more lollies?!! The cake recipe is from Best Recipes.com.au #5167.  Beryl's Chocolate Cake. And it's a good one- a stir with a wooden spoon recipe in a bowl..so easy for kids. ( thanks Beryl!).

We LOVE school holidays. The sleep ins, free weekends ( no sport!), and general easing up is good for everyone ( especially me!). We rarely get to go away, so most of it is spent here at home- but we make our own fun. Lot's of late night trashy tele with the teens, cooking and crafts with the little ones,  and the odd trip to the Big Smoke.

I hope your school holdays have been restful and fun!

Vintage Ottobre Design magazine Sewing! Issue 4/2001 Winter

I adore all Ottobre Design magazines- but I have a particular soft spot for their early Vintage issues.  I also have every issue of Topkids mag- too, but I am sure that will not surprise you. With a holiday break this week, I have been tracing madly from issue 4/2001.( currently in stock).

Imagine this in Hilco "Hairy Day"?  Perfect!

So my first project off the rank, pattern # 35. Leggins ( and they do spell it without the "g". No wonder I do, too! I have been asked this many times...it is obviously all the Non English patterns I read!!)

Fabric = cotton/poly velour knit from the Shop, in Imperial Purple hand dyed.
Trim= Janeas World ribbon in "m-Room" Lilac
Purple pom pom braid  and the icing on the cake? A super cute Janeas World sew on badge.

Pattern #35 is not the normal tight fitting leggin, it is a flare legged number- with the fabric suggested as velour knit. Otto 4/2001 features 3 patterns for plus size kids- and this pattern in included. Onto the others now!

Creamy Italian Sausage & Pasta - From the Crafty Kitchen

This is one of our family faves. Quick and easy, and very nice for cold winter evenings! Homemade Italian sausages are best, but the Aldi ones are ok too!

Ingredients:

500gms Italian pork sausages- thin. Slice into 6ths.
1 onion, sliced
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 x 400gms tin of Roma tomatoes whole or diced
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup red wine
1/2 cup cream
1 tsp ground fennel seeds
salt to taste.

1. Brown the sliced onion in a splash of olive oil, when nicely browned, add the crushed garlic and the sliced sausages. Cook over med heat until the sausages are lightly brown.

2. Add the red wine, allow to simmer a few minutes, then add the Roma tomatoes, tomato paste and water. I use a potato masher to crush down tomatoes and sausages. Add water, then allow to simmer about 20 minutes.

3. Add the  cream and fennel, and salt to taste. Serve over a nice chunky pasta, and top with freshly grated parmesan.

Left overs heat up beautifully.

Enjoy!
